Amanda Lusty BA (Hons) MBACP (Senior Accred) UKRCP and EMDR Therapist

About me

There are times when life can feel like an uphill struggle. My therapy room at Woosehill Medical Centre, Wokingham, offers individuals and couples the space to be heard in a non-judgemental, confidential and safe environment. Counselling gives you the opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings offering you the choice to try out new ways of relating, to gain control of your life and move forward.

Counselling can help you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, increase your self esteem and confidence thus allowing you to live your life more fully. I will aim to facilitate and encourage you to trust yourself, make your own choices and find your own answers.

Counselling can be used solely for personal growth, or other reasons may include:

Abuse Addiction Anger Management Anxiety Bereavement Depression Divorce Lack of Motivation Panic Attacks Redundancy Relationship Difficulties Self Esteem Sexuality Stress Management Work Related Difficulties.

I am a Counselling Psychotherapist in Wokingham and founder partner of Serafina Counselling Partnership. I utilise various models of Humanistic and Solution Focussed therapy to offer my clients short or long term therapy. I have experience within an NHS Surgery and run a private counselling practice at Woosehill Medical Centre, Wokingham.

I graduated from Greenwich University with a BA (Hons) in Counselling and I am an Accredited member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and abide by their ethical framework for good practice.

Couples Therapy

I am trained and experienced in helping couples find a deeper understanding of each other and their relationship. Problems within a relationship can often be driven by each individual's past experiences or family culture. Therapy offers the space to explore how these issues may have an impact on the relationship today.

I should emphasise that as a Person-Centred therapist I aim to offer support to both parties and I consider that the client in this process is the relationship. I would like to offer reassurance that I will not 'take sides' or try to influence one party more than the other, and I recognise that this is one fear that often stops couples seeking therapy.

One of the aims of couples therapy is to learn to listen to each other and to share thoughts and ideas in a safe setting. This shared experience can be used as a powerful tool to strengthen the core of your relationship. The art of communication is often lost in the stresses of a busy life or when major life experiences such as redundancy, financial issues, bereavement, the arrival of a new baby or a sense of disappointment that life is not taking the direction you planned impacts upon your relationship.

My approach to working with couples in a Person-Centred way invites both partners to express their needs and communicate authentically with each other. I will work with you to find ways of communicating with each other to help resolve conflict and bring closeness and awareness to the relationship.

If however you have already resolved to part, couples therapy can also be used to negotiate and mediate a successful parenting relationship thereby creating a more secure and loving environment for your children.

If you are seeking counselling in the Wokingham RG 45 locale please feel free to contact me for any additional information you may require.

I also practice EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). EMDR is a therapy that stimulates the brain's natural healing processes to resolve trauma and difficulties, especially where there are presenting symptoms, such as flashbacks, nightmares, high levels of anxiety and hyper arousal.

It was developed by Francine Shapiro and was primarily used for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), but is now used worldwide to treat a wide range of distressing symptoms.

EMDR is well evidenced as a successful treatment, and is one of the few trauma treatments recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) For further information do contact me, or view EMDR UK & Ireland Association website.

I offer EMDR counselling in Wokingham and Ewell.
